Hi,I am looking at getting a compact tractor, and I just got off the phone with my local Kubota Dealer.I explained my situation to him 4.5 acres, 1/5 mile drive to clear snow, 2.5 acres grass to mow. I told him I wanted to be able to rent implements like a overseeder. He said I would have to get the B2910 if I wanted to rent the implement or the Grande L3010.I told him I was using a Wheel Horse Garden Tractor now and that it was not doing the job.. TOO LONG to MOW 3+ hours. No GOOD in the SNOW ... No LOADER.. got losts a dirt to move for the gardner nut spouse.He then started to tell me that the BX might be the way to go for me, just rent the bigger tractor when I need it.To me it seems kind a awful to spend over $11k on a BX a still not be able to do all the things you want so you still have to rent. Afterall the BX has exactly the same size tires my Wheel Horse has on it. And I sure would not bother to put a loader on the Wheel Horse....its way to light and the BNX has to be too light also.Anyways this call just made me feel that the dealer was pushing the juiced up BX because it had heftier margins on it, plus it got me confused as to whether I might be making a misstake on the tractor size.Many years ago when I bought my first house that had acreage... 1.8 acres, I was skeptical as to whether I needed anything more than a push mower. I had about .75 to an acre of grass. With a push mower it took over three hours of drudgery to complete.I obsessed over this, thinking that perhaps this expense on a Garden Tractor would be ill advised, would it . Finally a friend of mine made me a deal, if I watched his dog for two weeks while he was on vacation, I could use his Gardern Tractor. I hooked up my trailer and got the tractor. My mowing time went from 3 hours to about an hour, just the amount I find therapeudic.

Hey, Ya know size is one of those things that's different for everyone. I was planning to get a Kubota untill New Holland came out with the Boomers and then decided to get a TC21D. 27 Acres, 1/2 mile driveway, 4 ac yard, 10 ac Hay, 8 ac pasture. I figured the 21 hp would do th job. Ended up getting the TC29D with the Frontend Loader & I'm very glad I did. The 21 would have done the job, but the 29 does it much better, and with less work for the tractor. Size is like buying a truck. Three things to consider; 1. What will do the job, 2. what do I want, 3. What can you afford. It was taking about 7 hours to mow the lawn, now with a 60" 3pt hitch mower it takes about 2 1/2. One thing to keep in mind. I'd buy bigg enough that I don't have to rent. If I can't do it with my Boomer, I don't need to do it. I don't guess I really answered your question, buy maybe I gave you more to think about. One guess is that possibly the rental PTO shafts are pre-cut to the lengths of specific tractors. The BX would require a shorter shaft. ....

I have a Kubota B2710 and have actually mowed my mom's regular size lawn with the rear-mount finish mower. And I brush hog 12 acres in about 7 hours with the same tractor. It is quite maneuverable. The only problem is getting the ROPS under tree branches. Its pretty hard to get a tractor thats too big. ....

I visited my local Kubota Dealer yesterday to get some photos and check some things out. One thing I looked at was the new Kubota sub compact BX tractor
I was also surprised by the apparent quality of these little BX's. They are very much the same as the B's just squished down lower on smaller tires. The axles and Motor hood are about about the same size. Even the loader except for the bucket seems very much the same caliber as the bigger B. They have taken steps to make it easier to "Quick Attach" a front blower as well not so on the Bigger B's.
Yet as much as I thought they were better than expected, I did feel that while the B series look like miniature Farm tractors, the BX's do look like a Garden Tractor, and I would like to see some real life feedback on people who have used both to get an understanding of the trade offs.

Your dealer is correct about the 3pt overseeder. Having done this task about two weeks ago to our yard, I can tell you that rental places will laugh at you if your tractor is below 27-30 HP. So..our 20HP 4100 sat idle. While it did make me wonder if I bought "too small". I know a larger unit would be cumbersome and simply too large for many areas of our property. I think the bigger question here is what do I expect from the unit, and what would be "nice" to accomplish if possible. Obviously this is all dependent upon your property layout, but in our situation...even the 4100 seems big at times. Where is that happy medium in size? IMHO, the BX sounds small for you. Secondly, as time passes and your experience increases, you will attempt larger projects you didn't even consider prior to owning a Compact. Hope I'm being reasonable here and not simply expressing my struggle at the moment.. ....

Mowing is the key. If you are mowing the BX is a great tractor. Honestly, mine spends 90% of its life mowing and it does it well. The other 10% of the time is spent pulling a 48" box blade, a 15 gallon sprayer, and a 100 lb. broadcast spreader. It does everything well. Just look honestly at what you are doing. I have tried mowing with bigger tractors. They are fine if you are not trimming around trees and the ground is firm and dry. I previously had a John Deere lawn tractor that was perfect for mowing but could not do anything else. The BX was the best I have found at covering both worlds. ....
